Connecting the Dots

investmenttool.com Opinion

The CIA had warning that could have clued the government in on the September 11 attack. The FBI had a terrorist in custody and a memo hinting at an attack. The President was briefed. The attacks happened. The largest intelligence failure in American history led to the death of 3,000 citizens. If the dots had been connected, the attack could have been prevented. Repeat: If the dots had been connected, the attack could have been prevented.

In the summer of 2001, an FBI agent in Arizona wrote a memo to headquarters. He indicated that Arab terrorists might be training at an Arizona flight school for the purpose of carrying out an attack on the United States. The memo, which apparently included hand written speculation about crashing a plane into the World Trade Center was never forwarded to upper management or the President.

As far back as 1974, there were hijackings, one stopped by a cowboy El Al pilot, a 1994 hijacking meant for the Eiffel Tower in Paris, stopped by French commandos. Both attacks were meant to ram the airliner as a missile into a populated area.

When the FBI arrested the twentieth September 11, hijacker, he had plenty of contact information, including cell phone programming to other hijackers. His computer had evidence that linked him to the hijacking. This man was very interested in learning to fly, not take off or land.

The CIA had an alert concerning a hijacking scheduled for July 4, 2002. Further, in August the president was briefed on warnings of a traditional hijacking.

Had all this information been put together, many if not all of the September 11 hijackers could have been arrested. Security could have been turned up. It is not farfetched that the plan to use box cutters might have come to see the light of day.

As I have published on these pages before, the September 11 attacks were completely preventable. It was the lack of cooperation within our government that failed to make that happen. Mostly to blame is the FBI. Those memo’s and the Minnesota arrest should have been a red flag and lead to action.

Osama bin Laden is guilty of the murder of 3,000 U.S. citizens. The United States Government is responsible for letting it happen. It’s that simple.
